ABOUT

Johnston Guitar Works (JGW) is a small independent guitar builder based out of Tillamook Oregon. Glenn is a wood connoisseur and a craftsman with an attention to detail that brings out the best tone and beauty of every guitar he builds. Big or small shop you will not find a finer builder.

 

Duncan Guitar Repair's owner, Wil, is a school teacher and budding guitar builder, honing his skills in anticipation of his retirement...which means retired to the daily life of a small business owner trying to build his business and compete against the larger repair shops in Portland.

 

My goal is to build my reputation to the point folks are coming over to the coast for their repairs instead of the other way around which happens so often (less frequently now). Guitar repair in Tillamook, Oregon? "Yeah, that'll be cool."

 

I have built a shop at my home and, God willing, will be able to do this craft I have fallen in love with to the day I am sent home to the real Maker. Hey, maybe He might need a good guitar.
 
I like to build using a more "hands on" method, more hand tools and sand paper than industrial power tools. This is for two reasons, one being I don't have a CNC machine and two, I feel it is more intimate to shape and adjust things as they come, no cookie cutter methods here just a love for the craft and the end result. The wood I try to get has been more one-of-a-kind stuff that takes a while to find. I will probably start getting more of the same species, but will always strive to have some unique sets on hand.

Wil once dreamed of repairing guitars and bringing old guitars to life. With the help of Master Lutiers Bob Brook and Glenn Johnston he is finally realizing his dream.

Via a mutual friend Rod, Glenn and I were introduced, hit it off and now I work with Glenn learning to build beautiful guitars. Glenn has also allowed me to use his shop as a home base for my repair business.

 

More importantly, I am a family guy with a wonderful wife 3 sons, 2 step-daughters, 1 step-son, two dogs, and a cat.
